A drone films the interior of a volcano crater, we see the molten magma

The video shows layers of bubbling lava at the mouth of Iceland’s Fagradalsfjall volcano.

The images are from 2021 but are resurfacing on social media. It must be said that they are quite impressive! One March 2021, Iceland’s Fagradalsfjall volcano erupts, offering explosions with red flashes which alerted the inhabitants and which led the curious to immortalize this event. The volcano had been dormant for 781 years and suddenly resumed its activity for more than 6 months.

Bjorn Steinbekk, a photographer who uses drones to take unique points of view, explains to Newsweek that these images had been filmed at the end of April 2021, when the lava formed a crust with a silvery texture. We can see on the images the lava which moves under the crust which cracks, changes color and finally the bubble of lava burst.

The video had already gone viral last year, but the photographer shared more in March 2022, a year later the eruption that took place just 40 km from the capital (Reykjavik).
