Northern Shuna – Ashraf Al-Ghazawi
A stray dog mauled a child,” the day before yesterday evening, inside the campus of Moaz Bin Jabal Hospital in the Northern Shuna.
The ten-year-old was visiting a patient with his family when he was attacked by a dog that tried to devour other visitors in the hospital, according to eyewitnesses.
The director of the hospital, Dr. Abdul-Jalil Miqdadi, told Al-Rai that the child had received treatment inside the hospital before leaving and was in good condition.
Miqdadi indicated that the location of the hospital building, close to agricultural lands, made his sanctuary a place for stray dogs to gather, many of which were poisoned months ago by the municipality following complaints in this regard.
He explained that the administration and the municipality were addressed at the beginning of this month to get rid of a dog and her puppies that are located inside the hospital campus and she was the one who mauled the child. The Animal Welfare Society was also put in the picture due to the presence of small puppies to find a solution for the dog as an alternative to poisoning.
Eyewitnesses said that visitors to the hospital were several times previously attacked by stray dogs inside and outside the hospital campus on the roads leading to it.
And spread in the Jordan Valley areas in general »stray dogs live among the residential neighborhoods and expose many citizens, especially children, to prey on them during the past years, amid the failure of the municipalities to combat them.
