A doctor warns of a condition in which water can cause an epileptic seizure, coma, or even death

However, many do not know that drinking excessive fluids can also pose a serious health risk.

A GP has issued a warning about how much water we should drink, as excessive consumption can lead to seizures, coma and even death.

Dr. Sarmad Mazhar pointed out in a video clip he posted on TikTok that the color of urine can be a good indicator of whether you are drinking too much fluid.

Dr. Mezher showed, through the video, what the color of urine looks like when a person drinks excessive fluids

Dr. Mezher spoke of the case of a young boy who ended up in hospital as a result. Saying: “Just like Ray here who lost consciousness and just woke up after being in the hospital due to water poisoning.”

He pointed out the harm that water poisoning can cause to the body, saying: “When we drink a lot of water, this can lead to a decrease in sodium levels in the blood, which means that the water will then float to the tissues with the highest salt level and in most parts of the body it does not cause “That’s a problem, but it can cause it in the brain.”

In a comment below his video, Dr. Mezher added: “When sodium levels drop to a very low level, cells begin to swell, which may affect essential organs such as the brain, and lead to symptoms such as headache, nausea, confusion, seizures, and in severe cases, coma or death.” .

When advising how much water we should drink daily, Dr Mezher said two liters is “good for most people”.

To know whether you are drinking enough or too much water, you can check the color of your urine. Dr. Mezher said: “It is important to note that urine does not have to be completely clear all the time. While staying hydrated is crucial, some yellow tint in the urine is normal and indicates healthy hydration. Pale yellow urine reflects an appropriate balance between water and waste, while clear urine may indicate overhydration. On the other hand, dark yellow or amber urine may indicate dehydration. “Maintaining balance is key, as adequate hydration without overconsumption ensures your body is able to regulate fluids effectively.”
