With the chimes of three and 15 minutes in the followingnoon, today, Saturday, the sirens sounded in the City Center “Carrefour” mall in the Muharram Bek area in the central Alexandria district, following a huge fire broke out and the flames of smoke and fire rose amid a state of panic among the pioneers.
Report and move
The Muharram Bey Police Department received a report stating that a massive fire broke out in the City Center “Carrefour” mall, and the department’s officers, civil protection forces, 6 firefighting vehicles and an ambulance moved to the site of the communication.
Evacuation of pioneers
The civil protection forces evacuated the mall from all visitors and shop owners, and began attempts to extinguish the flames of smoke and fire, control the fire and prevent its spread to the rest of the shops.
Minister of Health
Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health, cut short his visit to Alexandria University and the number of hospitals, and rushed to the site of the fire, accompanied by Major General Mohamed Al-Sharif, Governor of Alexandria, and Major General Khaled Al-Barawi, Assistant Minister and Director of Alexandria Security.
Today, the Minister of Health participated in the meeting of the Supreme Council of Universities headed by Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, which was hosted by Alexandria University.

At 4:20, the civil protection forces succeeded in controlling the massive fire, while cooling work continued, to prevent the flames from igniting once more.
The Minister of Health and the Governor announced raising the degree of emergency and maximum preparedness in all facilities and hospitals, in anticipation of any repercussions as a result of the fire that affected the most famous shopping center in Alexandria.

The governor indicated that the fire resulted in the injury of two people, one of whom suffocated and another from the civil protection fracture, and they were taken to the hospital to receive the necessary treatment.
The governor returned and indicated that the final death toll from the fire was 5, with minor injuries.

The preliminary inspection revealed that the fire broke out in the central air-conditioning on the roof of the Carrefour commercial center building from the outside, and it spread to a “canopy” of one of the gates.
While the governor explained that the fire started from the recreational games area and spread to the neighboring area, indicating that the losses are being counted and the causes of the fire are determined.
Heroes in the face of fire
Pictures taken by the “Masrawy” lens showed the efforts of the civil protection men to evacuate the mall and control the fire amid thick clouds of smoke, which resulted in the injury of one of them with a broken foot, and most of them sat on the ground from fatigue and exhaustion following performing their mission.
