Paris (AFP) – The chairman of the “education” committee in the Assembly and a teachers’ union said Thursday they feared “a filthy and distressing stigma” and a “class contempt” on the occasion of the upcoming release of a film co-produced by Cyril Hanouna dedicated to the students of Segpa.

On the basis of a short two-minute trailer broadcast in particular via the host-producer’s Twitter account, the deputy Bruno Studer declared himself “appalled by the first images of the film + Les Segpa +” (Sections d ‘ general and vocational education adapted).

“Humor, if it only consists in reciting a stigmatizing point of view or even a socially racist point of view, is only vulgarity. There is no subjectivity in bad taste: these are things that are ‘analyze,’ added in a statement, Mr Studer, who chairs the Assembly’s Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs.

“The producer of the film, Cyril Hanouna, whose father was a doctor and who himself did higher education, can in no way argue + self-mockery + in a film where, moreover, the actors who seem to over-play children Stupidly idiots, normally aged 10 to 16, all look very adult, “added the Alsatian deputy.

“It is lamentable to contribute to the stigmatization of our most fragile pupils and their families by conveying demeaning stereotypes”, criticized for its part, the teachers’ union, SE-Unsa.

“The students of Segpa (here played by young adults) are represented as imbeciles, vulgar and hostile to any form of learning,” the union described.

The film, whose trailer provokes the beginning of controversy in the teaching world, relayed by the press and social networks, is inspired by a successful web series.

“When teachers offer guidance in Segpa, they sometimes come up once morest the reluctance of parents or children who fear being laughed at. This film will only make matters worse”, judged SE-Unsa.

The Segpa classes welcome small numbers of students with academic difficulties to the college. 87,059 students were enrolled in Segpa at the start of the 20221 school year, according to data from the Ministry of National Education.
