The deodorant manufactured by the company Nuud was withdrawn from the French market following discussion with the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products. According to the health authority, the galenic form of the deodorant, mainly greasy, might even cause a microbial superinfection in its user.
“Don’t use deodorants anymore, use nuud”. This is the slogan that appears on the website of the company Nuud, which offers a deodorant in the form of a gel to be applied to the skin. Also on the same site, the product is displayed as “temporarily unavailable”, the manufacturer working “on a new formula”.
The National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (ANSM) effectively announced on Wednesday September 6 that Nuud deodorant has been withdrawn from the French market “due to painful cysts that have occurred in people” who have used it.
“We have carried out investigations”, indicates the ANSM before adding that these “have shown that the galenic form of this deodorant, mainly greasy, might be responsible for this undesirable effect”.
A new deodorant formula in preparation
The ointment applied to the skin “would favor the obstruction of the pores of the armpits with the possibility of a microbial superinfection, by an occlusive effect”, according to the health authority which specifies that “in most of the declared cases, the cysts have disappeared following discontinuing use of the product or taking prescribed treatments”.
Consequence of the withdrawal of Nuud products: the latter are displayed as sold out on the merchant site and their marketing in points of sale has been stopped. Only the brand’s soap remains available for sale.
In addition, the ANSM points out that the ingredients contained in Nuud deodorant “are not individually considered to be the cause of the reported adverse effects”. In a press release dated August 16 and published on Wednesday September 6, the manufacturer Nuud let it be known that the new formula of its deodorant “will be available very soon”.
