A draft decree, examined by franceinfo this Friday, May 3, is already raising concerns among patients who regularly use ambulances, medical taxis and VSLs.
Indeed, the latter might find themselves accepting detours of up to 30 kilometers when traveling by ambulance or taxi to or from the hospital.
This measure follows a decision by Parliament last fall to share taxi and ambulance services with the aim of making savings for Social Security, which is faced with considerable expenditure in reimbursing medical transport. . They reached 5.7 billion euros in 2022sharply increasing.
In accordance with the draft decree, patients will now have to share their taxis or ambulances with other patientswith the possibility of a detour of ten kilometers per passenger, and within the total limit of 30 kilometers (if three passengers are on board).
What regarding waiting times?
This provision raises concerns among patients, particularly those who regularly visit the hospital for treatments like dialysis or chemotherapy.
Questions also remain regarding waiting times. The decree stipulates that these must be “reasonable” for patients, terminology considered vague by some specialists.
To benefit from a individual transport always reimbursed, the doctor must specify on the prescription that the patient’s condition does not allow shared transportation. Otherwise, patients will have the option to refuse shared transportation, but will have to advance the costs for the current year.
This situation poses a particularly worrying problem for people on dialysis, whose average annual costs are up to 20,000 euros, points out on France Info Bruno Lamothe, from the Renaloo kidney patients association.
