Cole Caufield scored his 14th goal of the season Monday once morest the Canucks in Vancouver. The Montreal Canadiens sniper came close to scoring two more, but he was unable to hit the target.
While his offensive production isn’t going down, one stat has been down lately: his number of shots per game. This was highlighted by TVA Sports journalist Renaud Lavoie in his column on the “JiC” program on Tuesday.
“In the first 12 games of the season, he was averaging four shots per game. Since then, it has gone down, he observed. He has an average of 3.4, which is still very good. But for six games, it’s only been two shots on average per game. Against the Columbus Blue Jackets, he got none for only the second time in his career.
“Hopefully we’ll see Cole Caufield throwing the puck once more. It has to hit the net. If you throw but it doesn’t hit the net, it doesn’t count as a throw. When he hits the net, he’s one of the best in the National League.”

He also talks regarding Sean Monahan, who is the victim of a “still serious” injury. “It’s a shame because he’s such an important guy in the team’s success,” he said.
