A decision of St-Louis questioned

A few days before the start of the regular season, Martin St-Louis decided to send Cayden Primeau into the fray for a full game Thursday night in Gander. A decision that Philippe Boucher does not understand.

“The number 1 goalkeeper is Jake Allen and the number 2, unless I’m mistaken, is Samuel Montembeault,” said the analyst on Friday during the “JiC” program.

“Since I’ve been playing hockey, the back-up keeps the nets in the penultimate preseason game and the number 1 goalkeeper is used in the last meeting in order to prepare well for the regular season,” explained Boucher.

However, St. Louis decided Thursday to send Cayden Primeau in goal for the seventh and penultimate game of the preparatory camp.

The goaltender was weak on the Senators’ first two goals, eventually giving up four goals on 26 shots.

Primeau is having a tough training camp with a goals- once morest-average hovering around 5.50.

Reinforcement requested

The Canadian’s defensive brigade also puzzles Philippe Boucher, who believes that young people need to be better supervised.

“I like Guhle, there is also Barron, Harris, Xhekaj. Without forgetting Mailloux who is coming. They are all close to tasting the NHL, but alongside a veteran.

With the injury to Joel Edmundson, David Savard and Mike Matheson are the only two true veterans on the Canadian’s blue line.

Thursday in Gander, Guhle and Barron formed a defensive pair. “I’m not sure Guhle is a veteran for Barron,” Boucher quipped.
