The fourth meeting of the Election Commission was held under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja on the issue of clarification of the Supreme Court on specific seats, the members, the Secretary Election Commission and the legal team participated in the meeting.
In the meeting, the legal team gave a briefing on the explanation of the Supreme Court and the new Election Act, while the letter of the Speaker National Assembly and Speaker Punjab Assembly was also reviewed.
The legal team said in the briefing that PTI has no right to certain seats.

In this regard, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq also wrote a letter to Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja in which it was said that the Supreme Court in its decision has instructed the Election Commission that independent members can join any other party. Independent members who have become part of a political party cannot be allowed to change party, Act independent members who have not submitted party certificate will be considered independent.
The Speaker National Assembly had further said in the letter that the decision of the Supreme Court was under the previous Act which is not applicable, the Act passed by the Parliament has become law after the assent of the President.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said in the letter that it is important to maintain the integrity and independence of the parliamentary system, the Election Commission should ensure the observance of the parliament and democratic principles.
The fourth meeting of the Election Commission will be held today, Friday, for further consideration of the Supreme Court’s ruling on specific seats.
