As part of the seventeenth European week for prevention and screening of cervical cancer, from 23 to 29 January, the Regional Cancer Screening Coordination Center in Centre-Val de Loire organized prevention days for the woman.
One of them was held on Saturday at the Pithiviers hospital center. Forty appointments were offered. They quickly found takers. A waiting list of the same number has been created.
The consultation focused on all the issues around women’s health: contraception, taking a Pap smear, information on breast cancer screening.
According to Natalie Horstmann, health insurance prevention officer, these decentralized prevention days meet a real need. They make it possible to meet women without follow-up for sometimes a long time and the majority of whom are over forty, to remove the fears or apprehensions that such an examination can cause.
Some patients, who do not have a gynecologist, are unaware that a Pap smear can be performed by a general practitioner or a midwife. This appointment is an opportunity for Ingrid Bottier, health insurance reception agent, to update all the data relating to the patient who has come for consultation.
