A state of controversy prevailed on social media platforms, following news circulated regarding the pursuit of British Prince Harry and his wife Megan, last Tuesday evening in New York, which almost caused a “catastrophic accident” for the couple.
In a statement sent to the media, Harry and Meghan’s office said they had encountered Chase “Almost catastrophic” for the car they were traveling in – accompanied by Megan’s mother – following they left a charity event in New York City, and the chase lasted for more than two hours.

The chase was carried out by a “highly aggressive gang of paparazzi,” the statement said, and resulted in a number of near-misses involving other road drivers, pedestrians and two NYPD officers.
“Being a public figure brings a level of concern, but this should not be at the expense of anyone’s safety. Publication of these images, given the medium through which they were obtained, encourages highly intrusive practices that are dangerous for all involved.”
“I’ve never seen anything like this before,” said Chris Chanchers, a member of the security team for the couple, Harry and Megan. “What we were dealing with was very chaotic, there were dozens of vehicles, cars and bicycles.”
And the American journalist Max Foster quoted the security man as saying, “The public was endangered at several points. The event might have been fatal.”
On the other hand, Sukcharan Singh, the driver of the car that took the couple and Megan’s mother – told media – that the couple had “exaggerated” the description of the danger that surrounded them in their statement to the press.
Singh said, “We were obstructed by a garbage truck, and suddenly the journalists rushed in and started taking pictures. The couple was regarding to give me the address they were going to, but instead they told me to turn back.”
Singh continued, “The couple looked nervous, I think they were chased all day or something, because they looked really nervous .. and I think that the description of the event is exaggerated, so do not pay much attention to it.”
I lived in Manhattan for 17 yrs & it is not possible to have a 2hr “car chase” there. Too many street lights/stop signs, too much foot/car traffic & hundreds of places you might safely pull over to protect yourself.

When asked if he felt that he and those with him were in “danger”, the driver replied, “Absolutely not. We were in a safe place. There was a police station near, and policemen everywhere, and there was nothing to be afraid of.”
The driver also confirmed that he did not see any reckless chases from the paparazzi to his car while he was taking the couple away, and said that if this did happen, it must have happened before he picked them up.
For his part, New York City Mayor Eric Adams described what happened as “reckless and irresponsible,” and told a news conference, “It’s hard to believe there was a two-hour car chase. Hard to believe.”
Followers and interactors on social media had different opinions. Some of them saw that the experience of Princess Diana, who died in a car accident following being pursued by paparazzi in Paris, was repeated with her son, Prince Harry, while others saw that the couple were lying to draw the attention of the press.
American journalist Megyn Kelly wrote, “I’ve lived in Manhattan for 17 years, and there can’t be a two-hour car chase. There are too many street lights and stop signs, heavy foot and car traffic, and hundreds of places you can stop safely to protect yourself.” “.
“There was no manhunt for two hours,” said British journalist Piers Morgan. “Their story unfolds over time.”
There was no 2-hour chase, their story is unravelling by the minute.
