A female customer who visited a department store in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, broke a shoe shelf and lay down on the floor, claiming that she had “sold counterfeits.” The guest was taken into custody by the police, who were dispatched following receiving her report, and is said to be under investigation. The department store’s position is that it is “a one-sided claim by the customer.”
Customer A posted a video of 2 minutes and 45 seconds on his YouTube on the 13th, saying that he had obtained consent from the department store. He entered the department store barefoot wearing a pink dress.
Mr. A first stopped by the customer service center to find the store manager. When the employee asked, “Who is in charge?” Mr. A said, “Has there been no handover? I’ll just go up and screw it up,” he said and left the customer service room.
Mr. A, who took the elevator and went straight to the store, said to the store clerk, “You guys, don’t call me. talk in writing Call me one more time. Do I have to make money while courting part-timers? I can’t even spend 50 million won on my own?”
A netizen who said he witnessed the situation directly said to Mr. A’s video, “I watched it in real time while shopping. There were no casualties by destroying all store products and fixtures (I’m worried). No matter how angry you are, what’s wrong with the staff and the people who were shopping?”
Photos of the situation at the time were also posted on online communities. Looking at the picture that a witness posted on ‘Bobaedream’ on the 14th, Mr. A is lying sprawled with his arms spread out in the hallway of a department store. Dozens of pairs of shoes are scattered on the floor.
As for the reason for his anger, Mr. A claims that “the store sold counterfeits and the employee screamed.” The department store side said to News 1, “Both agreeing to publish the video and selling counterfeit products are unilateral claims by the customer.”
A netizen who identified himself as the manager of the store said through an online community, “The brand mentioned has nothing to do with this store.”
He said, “The origin of the case was the sale of counterfeit goods, but there is no brand in Korea that produces and sells ‘replica’ as we commonly know among domestic handmade shoe brands. It is because there is no such merit,” he added, adding, “Replicas are made and sold cheaply for luxury brands costing millions of won, but there is no company that manufactures and sells domestic brands as replicas.”
He continued, “The content of selling counterfeit goods that Mr. A is talking regarding is also regarding someone else who has nothing to do with him.” However, I repeat, I have never sold counterfeit products.”
