A customer surprised by discovering the prices of cans of peas and carrots at Colruyt: “It’s normal”, assures the brand

In this period of shortage and while the cost of living continues to rise, supermarkets are showing ingenuity to limit their losses while trying to satisfy customers.

On this subject, a reader of the Gazet Van Antwerpen expressed his astonishment when he discovered, at the Colruyt store in Beveren, that a tin of 400 grams of peas and carrots cost 1.01 euro, whereas a tin of same product, of the same brand, of 800 grams, cost… 0.99 euro. A box twice as big… but cheaper.

And this is the case with different products, and in different Colruyt stores. But not everywhere. And online, this difference is not so systematic. So how to explain it? Contacted by our colleagues from the Gazet van Antwerpen, Colruyt explains that the brand “systematically adapts to the prices of its competitors”. “That way, we offer our customers the lowest prices, for each product, at all times. At that time, there was a lot of competition on the 800 gram cans of peas and carrots, so we reacted to this product, ”explained the spokesperson.
