After the iMac without a “chin”, here is a new Apple device that has been hijacked by a rather clever creator. This time it’s an iPhone 14 Pro Max. A technician thus had fun modifying the design of the mobile, which is clearly not easy as we know the limits imposed by Apple in this area. Indeed, it is easy to make your iPhone inoperative by trying to modify it in this way…
Here, however, no problem: the final prototype is functional. This one looks just like the original model, with one difference. The edges of the screen are curved to fit the shape of the chassis, as Samsung offers for example on its Galaxy range with Edge technology. What advantage? A potentially larger display, without taking up too much space in the user’s pocket, because the shell does not have to be overweight to qualify for this change.

The same spec sheet under the hood
Apart from the slab, the creator, who shared his concept on Twitter, ensures that all the other components are the same as with a classic iPhone 14 Pro Max. We therefore find a puce A16 Bionic and 6 GB of RAM to power the operating system, accompanied by the triple rear photo sensor and a LiDAR for augmented reality. The Lightning port is also still there, while other models proposed in the past to replace it -effectively- with a universal USB-C socket.
Not so convenient…
Although the curved screen on the sides can indeed offer a best size to screen ratio, it’s not just a daily benefit. Such a diagonal is thus well more exposed to reflections and the new edges become almost unusable. Samsung had also developed apps dedicated solely to this new interface, but the success will not be there.
No, what would be really welcome is a iPhone concave rather than convex. Here too, the Android manufacturers already have their own solutions, such as the G Flex from LG or the Galaxy Round from Samsung, but sales have not been able to convince the general public either. Yet televisions and external monitors for computers already take full advantage of this.
We also know thatApple is working on flexible displays for several years now. But the system might be intended for a folding iPhone, whose comfort would therefore be even more optimal. Only patents and rumors have raised this possibility till today.
