A Cuban family realizes their dream: to settle in Quebec to escape the difficult life of their country. After one and a half steps and waiting, they finally live in their four and a half apartment in Saint-Gabriel-de-Brandon.

A furnished apartment, clothes, toys… Dozens of people have mobilized to offer them a new start through social media.
“It’s through our days off to come here, to make trips… We live on the south shore. Preparing the accommodation … It was a lot of time investment, “said the spouse of Gabrielle Hogue Pâquet and also friend of the family, Marc-André Boucher.
“We were lucky to have people around us. My family, but also people we didn’t know who, via social networks, contacted us to tell us: ”I have this to give, I want to help you”. Some had equipment, some had monetary donations, others had time,” added Ms. Hogue Pâquet.
Even before setting foot in Quebec, the couple had already found work at the restaurant Ma Cuisine, in the heart of the village of Saint-Gabriel.
“We knew that Dayron was a chef and that we were going to lose our chef, so I said to Gabrielle: ‘If we bring in Dayron, there’s no question of us not doing come the mother and the two children!”, confessed the administrator and secretary of the restaurant, Manon Lépine.
Daira will start as an assistant cook, preparing food. As soon as she has learned a few words in French, she will go to the dining room.
In the meantime, it will take a lot of adaptation if only to know how to properly do things that seem banal to us in life, such as operating household appliances.
The children are enrolled in school, francization is imminent. Everything so that their new life can start on the right foot.
