Bitcoin cold wallet manufacturer Coinkite is launching a new product announced recently. The device called Coldcard Q1 already has a normal QWERTY keyboard and a QR code reader. It is battery operated and uses a completely similar security model to the Coldcard Mk4. Especially following the collapse of the FTX crypto exchange, the demand for own cold wallets increased. It’s no wonder that in December 2022, for example, Ledger launched its portfolio called Stax, which was designed by Tony Fadell, who also designed the iPod. Then 1inch Network also announced the launch of a cold wallet at the beginning of 2023.
A brief introduction to ColdCard Q1
Quite a few people are starting to adopt the philosophy that “your only Te coin is what you really have”, so the demand for cold wallets is constantly increasing. Coldcard Q1 is a wallet aimed at a higher price category, for which pre-orders can already be placed on Coinkite’s website. It runs on a battery, so you don’t need a desktop computer or a direct power source. It has a 320×240 pixel LCD display, which is almost four times the size of the Coldcard Mk4 display. It is trendy that the QWERTY keyboard of the Coldcard Q1 also has LED lighting. The range of capabilities of the device is quite massive, since, like the Coldcard Mk4, the Coldcard Q1 also has NFC functionality and two MicroSD slots.
But NFC functionality and USB outputs can also be permanently blocked. It is not even worth talking regarding the usefulness of the QWERTY keyboard, since it will be much easier to type the words of our key. What the Mk4 knew, the Q1 knows, but on the one hand, it is easier to handle, and on the other hand, the range of functions has been expanded. According to the Coinkite website, the Mk4 is now priced at US$147.94, while pre-orders cost $200 for the Q1. Those who pay with bitcoin will immediately receive a 5% discount. So if you are thinking regarding buying a cold wallet, you should also consider Coinkite’s new product.
