The incident took place, yesterday evening, Thursday, in their house in Haddah neighborhood in the capital, Sana’a, due to a dispute over inheritance, according to what people close to the family said.

The neighbors and those around heard the sound of gunfire, after the son Ammar emptied the bullets in his father’s head, fired a bullet in the head of his brother, then emptied the rest of the bullets into his father’s wife, and fled, according to Yemeni media sources.

In addition, the neighbors rushed to the house to find the father, his wife and his son had fallen with their blood. They took them to the Modern German Hospital, but they died before they reached it.

A mentally unstable

For their part, eyewitnesses told Al-Arabiya.net that the young Ammar Abdulaziz Zahra, who is the son of the Deputy Mayor of the Capital and former Secretary General of the Yarmouk Club Abdulaziz Zahra, may suffer from a psychological condition.

The crime sparked widespread popular anger among Yemenis on social media, who demanded his trial and retribution.

While jurists deplored these incidents as a scourge that destroys the security of the family and society as a whole, denouncing the lack of determination and passion on the part of the son who was stripped of his nature and humanity.

One of them commented in disapproval: “How dare one of them open fire on a member of his family, kill his father, who was the reason for his existence, and purify him from the fatigue and misery of his upbringing, there is no doubt that he is not in his full mental strength.”

And another added: “Anyone who notices that his son’s behavior has begun to change or enter into psychological disorders, he must quickly present him to the doctor for treatment before his condition worsens and reaches the stage of unconsciousness and sanity, with the necessity of stripping him of his firearm or blade in order to avoid committing a crime.”
