“The signed contract for the Verkių Gymnasium project marks a significant step in the development of educational infrastructure. The highest requirements are set for the school, the aim is to realize the vision of a modern and inspiring educational center. We hope that the architectural solutions of the building will meet the needs of all communities”, says Vilnius City Vice Mayor Arūnas Šileris.
The Vilnius City Municipality and the Vilnius Development Company signed a contract with the architectural studio “Architektūros linija” regarding the design of the gymnasium in Vilnius.
In April, the capital city invited architects to submit projects in an organized open architectural competition for a new educational institution – a gymnasium in Verkiau, at the address M.Marcinkevičius gatvė 72. A total of 13 proposals were received.
The evaluation committee awarded the most points to the idea of the Lithuanian and Finnish UAB “Architektūros linija” team, named “Nature”.
As announced, the authors of the project designed the school as a part of the whole of nature, located on a plot of land in the capital, surrounded by residential buildings. The building of the future gymnasium is formed by four buildings of different sizes.
On the first floors of the buildings, large rooms (canteen, dance and sports halls, library) with direct connection to the central space are planned. Classrooms and laboratories are designed on the second and third floors. It is envisaged that the school spaces will be flexible and flexible, for example, canteens, libraries, assembly halls and hall spaces can be combined for convenience and efficient use.
It is also planned to install a sports field and outdoor classrooms. It is hoped that the new educational institution will also be attractive for everyday use by the local community.
“Our company’s priority in developing educational institutions is people. After all, a gymnasium is not only a building, but also a space where the young generation spends a lot of time and goes through a significant stage of their lives. Therefore, we build the school thinking first of all regarding the creation of a united and safe community and we do everything to ensure the implementation of the highest quality standards”, says Laura Joffė, head of the Vilnius development company.
It is planned that regarding 500 high school students will be able to attend the new school. It will consist of 16 classes. The estimated cost of designing the gymnasium is 807 thousand. euros, while the preliminary construction price is 20.26 million. euros.
