A common mistake many people make that prevents weight loss

“In order to lose weight, you need to limit your calorie intake,” nutritionist Luke Hannah said in a TikTok interview about proper weight loss. “So you need to limit your food intake during the week, and eat lots of low-calorie foods and things that you’ve been told are good for weight loss.”

But this approach can lead to unhealthy “overeating” on the weekend, Express reports.

“The next part is the problem you may not be aware of,” Hannah explained. “The weekend comes and suddenly you’re busy with social activities, eating delicious foods and all the things you used to avoid during the week.”

“So what happens? Well, you just give up, but you may ruin the calorie-reduction plan you’ve been following all week. Then Monday comes and you start all over again,” he added.

“Make your diet less restrictive and more balanced during the week,” advises Luke. “This might mean making sure you’re eating filling foods, not just low-calorie foods, or adding more foods you normally exclude, but in reasonable amounts.”

The NHS recommends the following to lose weight in a healthy and sustainable way:

– Exercise for 150 minutes a week.

– Make sure to eat 5 meals a day (80 g of fresh, canned or frozen fruit or vegetables counts as one meal).

– Aim to lose 0.5 to 1 kg per week.

– Read food labels.

Replace sugary drinks with water.

– Reduce your intake of foods that are high in sugar and fat.

– Share your weight loss plan with someone you trust.
