The cult classic in the form of legendary plumber Mario is back on the big screen – thankfully, this time we’re in for a full-fledged animated film, and not strange experiments with live actors.
Series creator Shigeru Miyamoto was the first to unveil the project and thanked Mario fans for their support. As for producer Chris Meledandri, who is known for his work on Ice Age and Despicable Me, he said that the cast and crew consisted of “fanatic” Mario.
Screen adaptation of The Super Mario Bros. Movie is the result of a collaboration between Nintendo and Universal Pictures’ animation division Illumination. The work on this tape was announced back in 2018, but now we have seen it in the flesh for the first time.
Chris Pratt voiced Mario in the new cartoon, and the main antagonist Bowser got the voice of the musical Jack Black. The trailer itself presents the work of these actors in all its glory and looks really quite bright and dynamic, and computer graphics do not hurt the eyes and look nice.
The footage presents us with a sequence with a lot of references, understandable to the fans, where Bowser falls on the peaceful penguin kingdom, and then the camera shows us the Mushroom Kingdom and Mario. In addition, we get a glimpse of Mario’s brother, Luigi, as well as the canonical turtles.
Chris Pratt in the role of Mario did not try to be smart with an Italian accent and try to sluggishly parody Adriano Celentano – the actor simply spoke in his own voice, so the hero sounds quite American, but natural.
Super Mario Bros is expected to release on April 7, 2023.
