A collapse at a Russian gold mine trapped more than 100 meters deep

“At the time the rockfall occurred, 13 people were in the shaft at a depth of approximately 125 meters. These are the contractor’s employees. It has not been possible to contact the people yet,” said the management of the Amur region.

As of Tuesday morning, 25 workers from the Russian Emergencies Ministry’s mining rescue team are said to have arrived at the scene, while fire and rescue teams are continuing to work.

An Mi-8 helicopter with 13 rescuers from the Russian Ministry of Emergencies and the Primorsk Krai Agency was also dispatched to the Amur Region from Khabarovsk Krai.

There have been reports that water has broken out in the shaft, but the actual situation is not yet known.

“Tass” announces that the representatives of Pokrovsky rudnik company did not confirm the information regarding the collapse in the mine.

“We do not confirm the information regarding the explosion at the Pioneer mine,” the press service said, commenting on local media reports.

The collapse happened on Monday in a mine where gold is extracted. The press service of the Ministry of Emergencies of Russia reported that there are up to 13 people under the rubble, according to preliminary data. According to the prosecutor’s office, there may be up to 15 people under the rubble.
