a child’s bad joke leads to a big police operation

This Saturday April 30, shortly before 4 p.m., the commitment and alarm center of the Friborg cantonal police was informed by the staff of a department store, in Murten, that they had received an anonymous call saying that a bomb had been planted in the store.

An important device was therefore put in place by means of several police patrols in order to cordon off and secure the area. The people present in the store and its surroundings were evacuated calmly as a safety measure.

Taken to the post

Explosive search dogs, as well as the cantonal police’s neutralization, removal and explosive device detection group were mobilized to search the premises.

At the same time, the investigations carried out made it possible to identify and arrest the presumed author of the call, namely a 12-year-old boy, residing in the region. Taken to the station, he was auditioned. This measure made it possible to highlight that it was a bad joke.

The situation returned to normal around 8:30 p.m. The facts will be brought to the attention of the competent magistrate.
