Engineering and architecture are professions that have actively participated in the construction of the national infrastructure and have helped make our country one of the most important economic powers in the world. To achieve the above, they first had to establish themselves as the great Institution that they are and represent.
100 years ago, in 1922, the Technical School of Builders was born, an institution that accepted the challenge of training professionals of great human quality and with a high sense of responsibility.
A year earlier, in 1921, the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) had been created, where these professions had to intervene to build educational spaces designed for learning.
It was during the presidency of General Lázaro Cárdenas, in 1936, that the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) began its educational activities, and on January 30, 1937, the Higher School of Engineering and Architecture (ESIA) was established, with the responsibility of training cadre of engineers to develop the national industry, with construction being one of the main axes.
The first careers were: Civil Hydraulic Engineering; Roadways; Sanitary and Architectural Engineer. In 1943, he joined the Geology Engineering and in 1945 the Industrial Chemistry.
Upon reaching the year 1949, the careers of Industrial Chemical Engineer, Petroleum Chemical Engineer and Metallurgical Engineer were separated from the ESIA, to create the Higher School of Chemical Engineering and Extractive Industries (ESIQIE).
In 1970, the ESIA was divided into three areas: Architecture, with the career of Architect Engineer; Earth Sciences, with Engineering in Geology, Petroleum, Geophysics and Topography; and Civil Engineering, with the career of the same name.
The service that ESIA graduates have provided to society ranges from the construction of hospitals, schools, refineries, roads, bridges, hydroelectric dams, maintenance and restoration of houses and housing units, ports and airports, design of hydraulic and sanitary installations , exploration of hydrocarbon sources, water purification plants, assistance in natural disasters and planning of settlements and urban development.
Over the course of 100 years, the Higher School of Engineering and Architecture has been greatly strengthened. In its facilities, more builders of the country are prepared every day, with three academic units such as Zacatenco, Ticomán and Tecamachalco. Today it has six professional careers: Architecture, Civil Engineering, Geology, Geophysics, Petroleum Engineering and Topography and Photogrammetry; as well as a Doctorate of Science in Architecture and Urbanism and three Master’s degrees.
The achievements achieved over a century are the result of always doing quality Engineering and Architecture, putting the Technique at the Service of the Homeland, as well as at the service of Mexican men and women.
