A cell phone at $10 million: Cyber ​​Day started under the eye of Sernac and with the classic complaint of inflated offer | Economy

The Cyber ​​event will run until Wednesday, June 1. Nearly 800 companies are participating, including retail, automotive, real estate and supermarket firms.

At 00:00 hours this Monday began the first Cyber Day of 2022, under the exhaustive monitoring committed by the National Consumer Service (Sernac) and with users expressing complaints regarding “inflated” offers.

An example of the latter, and which generated a series of reactions from users, was a refurbished Huawei brand cell phone that is now sold at a 98% discount. The detail of the sale indicates that its initial price was $10,000,000.

Cyber ​​event will be extended until Wednesday June 1 and the list of nearly 800 participating companies can be reviewed at www.cyber.cl. They include retail, automotive, real estate, supermarkets, among others.

Most of the participants correspond to the areas of clothing, footwear and accessories (113), home (97), health and beauty (86), sports and outdoor (63), and technology (48).

The Santiago Chamber of Commerce (CCS) projects that online sales will exceed $12.5 billion.

Sernac, meanwhile, stressed that it will be monitoring the behavior of companies during the three days that Cyber ​​Day 2022 will last: it will monitor that they adequately comply with the duty of information regarding the right to the legal guarantee, whose term was recently extended up to 6 months.

It will pay special attention to aspects related to relevant information of the products and services, , stockamong other topics.

Likewise, the Service will monitor that the websites are actually offering prices with discounts and valid offers.

Regarding the latter, already hours following Cyber ​​Day 2022 began, users began to express complaints: some accused a price increase in the run-up to the event to leave them at the same cost and even to a higher amount.

In particular, the initial price -put in doubt- that a retail firm (Falabella) indicated for a Huawei brand refurbished cell phone: $10,000,000, which with a 98% discount is $159,990.

Other customers charged that the sale prices of some products are the same as previous weeks at “normal” price; and that there were errors on the part of the participating stores when entering the discount websites.
