The Bas-Rhin mosquito control union is deploying a mosquito control operation in two districts of Strasbourg this Friday, September 9 between 1:30 a.m. and 5 a.m. A case of dengue has been identified in the area.
In recent days, people from Strasbourg have received an invitation in their mailboxes to stay locked up at home until the agents of the Bas-Rhin Mosquito Control Syndicate (the SLM67) can carry out a mosquito control operation.
The intervention is scheduled for the night, this Friday between 1:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. for the inhabitants of the Orangerie district and between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. for the residents of the Place d’Austerlitz.
At the origin of this decision, the identification of a case of dengue in a person who has recently traveled to a tropical country where the disease is present. During the period of viremia (duration during which the virus being present in the blood, a mosquito biting this person can then contaminate others), the patient frequented precisely the sectors of the place d’Austerlitz and the Orangery.
The purpose of this insecticide treatment operation responds “a strong public health issue in order to avoid any transmission of the disease to people who live in the area”, specifies theRegional Health Agency.
The organization further explains that the insecticide used, Aqua-K-Othrine, is authorized by the regulations. The dose sprayed in “cold fog” is 0.5 grams per hectare.
The operation will take place subject to suitable weather conditions.
The sectors concerned by this operation will be cordoned off by the police for the duration of the intervention. Residents are asked to stay inside buildings or cars for 30 minutes following the vehicle has passed.
It is recommended to shelter pets, not to leave clothes to dry outside, to bring children’s toys inside.
The day following this intervention, take care to rinse your garden furniture with water, just like the fruits and vegetables from the garden (or balconies) for which you will have to wait two days before consuming them.
