Difficult to predict the scenario of the fifth stage of the Vuelta, Wednesday August 30. If some sprinters are strong enough to overcome the difficulties of the course and envisage a victory, breakaways might just as well prevail in Burriana. Although this stage has only one listed climb, the profile will be very irregular, with many bumps during the 186.5 km of this day.
The Collado de la Ibola will be the hardest of them. This second category difficulty (11.4 km at 3.9%) might dampen the enthusiasm of some sprinters. The pass is nevertheless rolling and located more than 50 kilometers from the finish, leaving time for the teams wishing a bunch sprint to catch up on potential breakaways. Kaden Groves (Alpecin-Deceuninck), winner of the fourth stage, is one of the favourites. In the general classification, the leader Remco Evenepoel should not be worried. On the other hand, Bryan Coquard (Cofidis) gave up following his fall on Tuesday. The medical staff of his team suspect a fractured scapula.
