A car hits a heavy goods vehicle between Ath and Chièvres: the 27-year-old driver killed instantly

A traffic accident occurred this Sunday morning at the limit of Ath and Chièvres (Hainaut) where a car collided with a heavy vehicle. The 27-year-old driver of the car was killed instantly. The driver of the heavy vehicle left the scene.

The Wallonia Picardy emergency services were alerted shortly before 6 a.m. that a serious traffic accident had occurred along the chaussée de Mons (RN56) at the limit of the village of Arbre (Ath) and Chièvres. A car heading towards Ath collided with a heavy vehicle. A SMUR, an ambulance, an extrication vehicle, a tank truck and a command vehicle were dispatched to the scene.

When paramedics arrived, the driver of the car was already dead. The victim was stuck in the sheet metal of his vehicle, the front part of which was completely crushed. He is a young man from Athois, aged 27.

The other vehicle involved in this accident was no longer at the scene. The driver is actively sought. The driver may not have noticed the collision. Advised, the parquet floor of Mons-Tournai must go down to the scene.
