A car crashed into tables at a restaurant in Paris: one dead and six injured

Paris.-A car crashed into the terrace of a Paris restaurant on Wednesday evening, killing one person and seriously injuring six others, a police source and another close to the investigation told AFP, without specifying the motive.

The incident occurred in the east of the French capital, which is preparing to host the Olympic Games in less than ten days.

The driver of the vehicle fled, but a passenger was arrested, the police source said. The latter tested positive in a drug and alcohol test, according to the source close to the investigation.

Police had initially reported three people seriously injured, but later an official updated the toll and reported one dead and six injured, three of them in serious condition.

A large police presence was seen around the terrace of the restaurant Le Ramus in the 20th arrondissement of Paris, an AFP journalist noted.

At least four fire trucks were dispatched to the area.

“There were regarding ten people on the terrace,” a witness told the daily Liberation, adding that he saw several injured people, including “a man lying down and a man with his skull open.” “I had to take the chairs away from the people who were bleeding,” said another passerby. “I saw four people, three unconscious and one person covered in blood,” another witness told Clarin.
