On Saturday, April 15, a car collided with a truck on the N81 near the Designate Outlet shopping center in Messancy, heading towards Aubange. The accident occurred shortly following 7:30 a.m. The car was reportedly speeding and crashed under the truck. The prosecution revealed that the truck was traveling at 70 km/h and had begun to decelerate as it approached the roundregarding. However, the car did not avoid the truck, and no sign of braking or evasive maneuvering was found at the accident site. Unfortunately, the accident resulted in the death of the front passenger, a young French man born in 2002, while the other two occupants of the car sustained injuries. The driver, also French, was airlifted to a hospital in Liège, and the back passenger, born in 2004, was taken to Arlon hospital. The Polish truck driver was unharmed but severely shaken. Emergency services, including SMUR, two Aubange firefighters’ ambulances, Virton PIT, and police officers from the South-Luxembourg zone, responded to the scene. Saturday morning traffic on the N81 towards France was halted, with a detour in place from the roundregarding at the Arma store. Vehicle repairs were underway, and normal traffic was expected to resume by late morning. No expert was appointed, as the circumstances surrounding the accident were clear.

The speeding car crashed under the truck. According to the prosecution, the car did not avoid the truck which was traveling at a normal speed of 70 km/h and began to decelerate as it approached the roundregarding. No signs of braking or evasive maneuvering of the car were found at the scene of the accident.
The toll is heavy since the passenger who was in the front of the vehicle died on the spot. It is a young man born in 2002 of French nationality, like the other two occupants of the car. The driver, whose vital prognosis is engaged, was picked up by the helicopter from Bra-sur-Lienne and taken to a hospital in Liège. The passenger who was in the back of the vehicle, more slightly injured, was taken to Arlon hospital. These two injured were born in 2004. The driver of the truck, of Polish nationality, is unharmed but shocked.
The Arlon firefighters went to the site with the SMUR, two ambulances from the Aubange firefighters were also on site, as well as the Virton PIT and the police officers from the South-Luxembourg zone.
Traffic was cut in the direction of Aubange towards France and a diversion set up from the roundregarding at the height of the Arma store. The crash was still ongoing as of 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Vehicle repairs are in progress and the situation should be restored by the end of the morning. The prosecution did not appoint an expert, the circumstances of the accident being clear.
