The Château de Grignan, located in the Drôme Provençale, hosts “L’Avare” by Molière for its nocturnal festivals. The play is revisited by the director Jérôme Deschamps.
In the 17th century, the Château de Grignan (Drôme) was the residence of the daughter of the Marquise de Sévigné who stayed there a lot. It is an exceptional site where evening visitors stroll with pleasure before the theatrical performance. “We are already in an atmosphere before seeing the piece”rejoices a spectator. “It’s as if we were there in the same century”adds his companion.
A timeless comedy
While the spectators are taking their seats, Jérôme Deschamps and his troupe are getting ready backstage. Costumes, make-up and wig, all summer they will play The Miser by Molière, a play of amorous intrigue. The comedy is timeless underlined by burlesque stage games. “He knows Molière very well how to put his finger where it hurts. (…) People also laugh at wickedness”comments Jérôme Deschamps, director and actor. “It was very cool, we did not see the time passing”entrust two young people leaving the room.
