A bus fell into the “devil’s curve” and killed at least 24 people in Peru

At least 24 people, including an unknown number of Haitians, died this Saturday in the Peruvian region of Piura, north of Lima, when a bus with 60 passengers on board fell off a cliff for unknown reasons, police reported.

Police officers who arrived at the scene told local media that the accident occurred in a area of ​​difficult maneuverability, known as “Curva del Diablo” and that they are waiting for the Prosecutor’s Office to identify the deceased and injured.

The PNP investigates the causes of the accident and presumes that the driver lost control of the vehicle in a section with a steep slope due to the darkness of the night.

The deceased were transferred to the Talara morgue waiting to be identified.

The vehicle of the company Q’orianka Tours left Lima and he was heading to Tumbes, on the border with Ecuadorbut he left the highway in a desert area in the town of Órganos, when he had regarding 260 kilometers to go to reach his destination.

The accident was confirmed by the Superintendence of Land Transport (SUTRAN), which indicated in a statement that theThe vehicle had all the documents in order and was authorized to provide the service.

“SUTRAN has activated all the intervention protocols, coordinating in an articulated manner with the competent authorities in order to collect information related to the accident,” the institution said.
An unknown number of people were injured and were taken to hospitals in El Alto and Máncora, popular summer resorts in Peru, on the road to Piura, some 1,000 km north of Lima.

Several passengers were thrown out of the windows and others were trapped inside the vehicle.
