On the night of Wednesday to Thursday, two men broke into a Proxy Delhaize in Haaltert around 4:30 a.m., reports HLN. Upon entering the store, the alarm went off. The police arrived quickly on the spot.
“Two strangers broke a window and slipped inside,” said Frederik Vercruyssen, director of Delhaize. He adds: “The silent alarm went off immediately and I received a phone call from the alarm center and was able to see the two suspects walking around the store. The two culprits wished to steal cigarettes.
If a first individual was arrested, the second had time to hide… in the false ceiling of Delhaize. However, this second person was apprehended by the police: she fell as the police were passing.
“I’m glad the culprits were caught and they mightn’t make any loot. Fortunately, the damage is not too great. It is also the first time that we have had this experience,” reacted the store manager.
