A 45-year-old Briton died on Saturday following being caught in an avalanche while hiking with two other people in the Mont-Blanc massif, the gendarmerie and the emergency services said on Sunday.
The facts occurred around 5:30 p.m. on the Argentière glacier. A British couple was hiking with a mountain guide when an avalanche broke out which buried the woman under a slab, according to the gendarmerie. The other two people are unharmed.
Despite the intervention of the emergency services, “the person unfortunately died”, it was indicated to the Chamonix High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon, which was in charge of the investigation. An autopsy of the victim was requested by the judicial authority.
