newspaper revealedThe GuardianThat Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman will visit Britain to offer condolences on the death of Queen Elizabeth II, according to what it quoted an unidentified source as saying.
The newspaper said that, however, there was no confirmation on whether Mohammed bin Salman would attend the Queen’s funeral or not.
She added that British and Saudi sources did not provide any explanation regarding the plans of the Saudi crown prince regarding the weekend, which will witness the funeral ceremony.
The newspaper pointed out that there is an opinion that his attendance at the funeral may constitute an “unacceptable security threat or disrupt the ceremonies” due to the possibility of protests once morest the Crown Prince if he attends.
This will be the first supposed visit of the Saudi crown prince to the United Kingdom since the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in his country’s consulate in Istanbul in 2018 by Saudi agents.
London imposed sanctions on Saudi people in connection with the killing, including those close to Prince Mohammed bin Salman, including travel bans.
A US intelligence report concluded that Prince Mohammed bin Salman approved the arrest or killing of Khashoggi. The Saudi crown prince denies these accusations.
The last visit of the Saudi Crown Prince to the United Kingdom took place in June 2018, when London praised Riyadh’s plans to implement internal reforms.
The funeral of Elizabeth II will take place at Westminster Abbey Church in London, next Monday, where millions of people are expected to arrive, which poses a major security and logistical challenge.
This is the first ceremony of its kind to be held in the United Kingdom in nearly six decades. More than 100 kings, state leaders and dignitaries from royal families from around the world are expected to attend.
