A boxer who punched in the void during a fight is dead

Boxer Simiso Buthelezi died overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday, a few days following delivering a fight held in South Africa, his native land.

On Sunday, Buthelezi, just 24, looked set to win a 10-round duel once morest compatriot Siphesihle Mntungwa when he began, in a very strange way, to land punches in the air. The video of the scene, showing the referee who stops the confrontation without delay, has also toured the planet.

As confirmed in a statement released jointly by Boxing South Africa and the family of the deceased, Buthelezi suffered a brain haemorrhage and succumbed to the injury.

The South African Boxing Federation has already announced an independent inquiry into the death. Buthelezi was in his fifth professional boxing fight and had won the first four, according to boxrec.com.
