The establishment of this center was discussed already in 2023. in January, when it was aimed to identify books that must be removed from the trade due to violations of various laws, including those prohibiting LGBT propaganda.

The conclusions of this center are of an advisory nature, and the publisher will have to make the final decision on the fate of the book in which the violation of the law is found, – says the representative of the Russian Book Union.

Sales of books by the Russian writer V. Sorokin living in exile, American writers M. Cunningham and J. Baldwin have already been suspended.

Based on the recommendation of these “expert centers”, the publishing group “AST” has already been forced to suspend the novel “Heritage” by the Russian writer-in-exile Vladimir Sorokin, the novel “The House at the End of the World” by the American writer Michael Cunningham and the book by the American writer and human rights activist James Baldwin ” Giovanni’s room” sales in bookstores and digital platforms throughout Russia.
