The man watched the surfers having a great time when he decided to go swimming in the water of the river.
He reportedly gave a “peace” sign to people on the bank, before waving his arms seconds later, visibly distressed. He also reportedly screamed for help.
A surfer would have tried to help him, in vain.
Firefighters from Montreal and Longueuil, police officers from the Sûreté du Québec and the SPVM, as well as the Coast Guard, surveyed the river for long hours on Friday at the end of the day to try to find the victim, without success.
