The bill on increasing the number of judges in the Supreme Court will be presented in the National Assembly on Friday.

According to parliamentary sources, the number of Supreme Court judges will be increased from 17 to 23. The Supreme Court will consist of 23 judges including the Chief Justice.

This bill has already been presented by Barrister Daniyal Chaudhry on the day of private action, this bill has been accepted by the government, consultation is also going on to amend the Practice and Procedure Act.

Sources say that the session of the National Assembly was extended till Friday for the approval of the bill, according to the revised schedule, the session was supposed to end today.

It should be noted that in view of the delay in providing justice to the people due to the large number of pending cases in the Supreme Court, the government had appointed 2 ad hoc judges in July this year, but the critics termed the government’s move as an attempt to change the balance of power in the Supreme Court. was

President Asif Ali Zardari approved the appointment of two ad hoc judges in the Supreme Court of Pakistan on July 26.

In a statement issued by the President’s House, it was said that the President has approved the appointment of Justice Sardar Tariq Masood and Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Mian Khel as ad hoc judges of the Supreme Court for one year.

Justice Sardar Tariq Masood and Justice Mazhar Alam are former judges of the Supreme Court. The President approved the appointment of ad hoc judges under Article 182 of the Constitution.

Earlier in July, the Supreme Judicial Council approved the appointment of Justice Sardar Tariq Masood and Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Mian Khel as ad hoc judges.

The Chief Justice had recommended the names of 4 retired judges for the appointment of ad hoc judges, including the names of Justice Retired Mushir Alam, Justice Retired Maqbool Baqir, Justice Retired Mazhar Alam Mian Khel and Justice Retired Tariq Masood.

However, Justice Retired Mushir Alam and Justice Retired Maqbool Baqir resigned from becoming ad-hoc judges, Justice Retired Maqbool Baqir refused to take responsibility due to personal engagements, while Justice Retired Mushir Alam continued against ad-hoc judges on social media. In view of the campaign, he apologized for this offer.
