A Belgian family struck by the tragic death of their son Dàvi Luiz (4 years old) in a swimming pool in Portugal

Last Wednesday, we learned of the tragic death of a 4-year-old child following drowning in a swimming pool at Quinta da Barca, south of Porto.

The parents, originally from De Panne, spoke regarding this horrible accident to Het Belang van Limburg.

“We thought he was in his room until we realized it was empty. I immediately started looking for him like crazy”explique Laurens Deconinck, le papa de Dàvi Luiz.

After searching the places where their child used to play, the latter explains that he had a “premonition” and went to the swimming pool. “I then saw him floating with his head in the water. I tried to revive him, but I’m not a doctor. I ended up speeding to the hospital but he was already too late”he laments.

Laurens Deconinck also regrets not having bought a tarpaulin, which might perhaps have avoided this tragedy. “I had considered it but we were regarding to move and so we decided not to make this expense”he laments.

The family has since returned to Belgium where the body of little Dàvi Luiz has also been repatriated.

An autopsy has yet to determine the exact causes of his death.
