Neill Blomkanp, the director of sci-fi feature films such as District 9, Chappie and Elysium, is collaborating on the development of a new video game in the battle royale genre. This is Off the Grid in development at Gunzilla Games.

This isn’t the first time Neill Blomkamp has teamed up with a video game company, having directed the trailer for Bioware/EA’s Anthem. For Off the Grid, he helps develop the game’s narrative universe.
Off the Grid is a battle royale set in a cyberpunk-style sci-fi universe where corporations control the world. “ Set on a dystopian tropical island, OTG sends you on dizzying missions of assassination and sabotage for the greater glory and market share of your chosen faction. In an interview with GamespotBlomkamp says this regarding the game:
The approach is to try to inject the story in a way where players have the option to engage directly in the battle royale or have the option to dive into story missions, almost like a campaign to which you would be playing to follow a narrative of the story.
The game is scheduled for release in 2023 on Xbox Series, PS5 and PC.
