Every year, many couples are formed through online dating platforms. Unfortunately, for Justine and 5 other women that our editorial team met, the fairy tale turned into a nightmare. Over 12 years, one following the other, they crossed paths with the same man on Meetic: Frédéric. Today, they accuse him of having stolen from them a total of more than 400,000 euros.
“All I was looking for is a serious love story“, Justine told us. Very quickly, she fell madly in love with Frédéric, who seemed to be the Prince Charming she was no longer expecting. “For me it was bingo“.
A second victim testifies: “You fall in love with a man like Fred because he meets almost every need, I think he adapts a bit to the profile of the person he meets. He is funny and human, even if it is paradoxical“.
He’s a night owl
After magical moments with his victims, it’s a cold shower. They accuse the man they loved of fraud, breach of trust, forgery, computer fraud, according to a process that seems to repeat itself when night falls.
“You should know that it is a night owl, it hardly sleeps. I think that when I sleep, he goes on my cell phone, in my bag, he takes my cards. He usurped my identity, insidiously, he took my card, he collected my payslips, he opened bank accounts in my name, and took out loans in my name“, another victim told us anonymously.
Proceedings still ongoing
The Liège Court of Appeal has just sentenced Frédéric to 5 years in prison, within the framework of the trial of two of these victims.
Through his lawyer, Frédéric let us know that he disputed Justine’s accusations. She hopes that at the end of the trial, “he is behind bars, but above all that he stops destroying lives, destroying these girls“.
