As he had revealed the pelop.gr, the Patras Security Directorate dismantled a criminal organization whose members were active in the cultivation of cannabis seedlings in a mountainous, inaccessible area in Gavriani Magnesia. 4 people were arrested, 3 men of Albanian origin and one Greek.

In detail, the ELAS announcement states that:

In a mountainous area, a specially designed -7-level area was found, extending over an area of ​​6.5 hectares, where cannabis seedlings were cultivated

A large number of saplings were uprooted, while during the investigations more than 33 kilograms of dried cannabis, mobile phones and -39,990- euros were found and confiscated

The Narcotics Prosecution Department of the Patras Security Sub-Directorate of the General Regional Police Directorate of Western Greece dismantled a criminal organization whose members were active in the cultivation of cannabis seedlings in a mountainous area in Gavriani Magnesia.

In a police operation that took place in the early hours of yesterday, Friday, September 20, 2024, in a mountainous forest area near a wildlife refuge, in collaboration with E.K.A.M. police officers. and OPKE, -4- members of the criminal organization were identified and arrested.

It is about a citizen, aged 35, as well as three foreigners, aged 21, 40 and 22, against whom a case file was filed – as the case may be – for setting up a criminal organization and for violating the legislation on drugs and foreigners.

In particular, after an appropriate evaluation and utilization of information and data, as well as with the use of natural methods and technical means, it was found that the 35-year-old, together with his -3- co-accused, cultivated a large number of cannabis seedlings in a difficult and steep place, which is located on an area that he uses exclusively for cattle breeding.

As it emerged from the research:

in the area they had built a dryer, using tree trunks, in order to process the quantities of cannabis on site,
the site extended over a total area of ​​-6.5- acres, divided into -7- levels, which communicated with each other with improvised paths, with a total length of approximately 800 meters,
to water the saplings they used watering hoses, about 5 kilometers long, which pumped water from a makeshift water collection tank, located inside the ground, made of nylon and tree trunks and fed by an adjacent stream,
the necessary tools (pickaxes, hoes, shovels, saws) and supplies for the cultivation and care of the saplings, but also for feeding his accomplices, the 35-year-old transported using three vehicles owned by him, while
on the spot they had created improvised spaces and possessed the necessary utensils, for the purpose of their long-term stay (wooden structures, with beds and clothing, a lot of cooking utensils, cans, other food, bottles and gas stoves that served as dining areas).
During the operation, the 35-year-old man was located and immobilized, while in searches carried out, in the presence of a judicial officer, in vehicles and a house, -4- mobile phones and the sum of -39,900- euros were found, among other things, and seized.

The other members of the organization were arrested at the scene, close to the plantation, where, from a special processing area they had created in an abandoned and half-demolished barn, over -33- kilograms of dried cannabis as well as -4- mobile phones were collected and confiscated.

Due to the impassability and the large number and volume of the saplings (1,550 varying in height from 1.7 m to 3.20 m), their eradication is still in progress, with the assistance of the Fire Brigade’s Aerial Vehicle Service.

Those arrested are taken to the competent prosecuting authority.
