The Fire Department made an arrest for the fire yesterday in Lasithi, Crete.
In particular, today in the framework of the spontaneous procedure, by officers of the Fire Brigade, of the Arson Crimes Directorate in cooperation with investigative officers of the Arson Crimes Squad, a 45-year-old man was arrested, as being responsible for causing the large fire that occurred in the morning hours yesterday in the Mavro Kolymbo area Lasithi, Crete. According to information, the elderly man had set fire to grass on his property.
The arrested person will be brought before the Criminal Prosecutor Lasithiou tomorrow.
The fire was contained a few hours ago, while 186 firefighters with 14 groups of pedestrian units, 38 vehicles, and 4 helicopters helped from the air yesterday, one of which was for coordination.
Support is also provided by a pedestrian section provided by the GRETHA, ELAS forces, volunteer firefighters, project machinery and local water bodies.
It is noted that this morning another 17 firefighters arrived who traveled by ferry from Piraeus, to reinforce the groups of pedestrian departments. In addition, the fire services in the Region of Crete were put on general alert until Tuesday, April 9.
