A 4 million euro boost to businesses affected by Daniel

Today (27.9.2024) the Minister of Development, Takis Theodorikakos, accompanied by the Member of Parliament for Magnesia, Christos Boukora and the Secretary General of Private Investments, Stellina Siarapi, visited the First Industrial Area (BIPE) of Volos (hosting 105 businesses and employing thousands of workers) .

The minister first visited the BIPE facilities, which is one of the largest in the country (area 2.8 thousand acres). The Ministry of Development is financing the park with 1.7 million euros from the Recovery Fund for regeneration and upgrading projects. He was at the offices of the management body of the 1st VIPE Volos, where he spoke with the businessmen, listened to the issues that concern them and emphasized that the Ministry of Development will do everything it can to help businesses.

Afterwards, Mr. Theodorikakos was at the facilities of the EURIKA detergent company and at the EVOL Milk Cooperative.

He then had a meeting at the Chamber of Magnesia with the business world of the region, which was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Christos Triandopoulos. He announced that a fast-track program of around €4 million will be set up immediately to compensate businesses affected by Daniel and from areas that have not been subsidized so far. There has already been communication between the President of the Chamber and the General Secretariat of Industry.

The Minister of Development, speaking to the representatives of the press, said: “My visit here today had two objectives. The first was to visit the Industrial Park in the 1st Business Center of Volos, one of the largest and most important industrial zones of our country, with 105 established companies and thousands of employees. In an area of 2,800 acres.

Projects worth 1.7 million euros are being carried out with funding from the Recovery Fund. It is an absolute priority for the Government to formulate and implement a new production model for our country, which will be based on the even greater and stronger development of the industry of all branches of the Greek industry. On October 21, together with the Prime Minister, we will present our overall proposal and our strategy for this new production model.

We had the opportunity to discuss with the representatives of the established companies. Our support to the representatives of the industry, to the representatives of healthy entrepreneurship and to the workers in the industry is a given, because we are interested in this branch of the Greek economy flourishing even more. I was impressed by the very serious lack of labor in this area as well, something we need to resolve.

The second objective concerns the Chamber of Magnesia, as we have worked out a solution which must be implemented immediately. Areas were left out of the grant from the devastation caused by Daniel last fall. Together with the Chamber we will organize a very fast program with which the businesses that have been affected will be compensated. There has already been communication between the President of the Chamber and the competent executive from the Ministry of Industry, so that this program can be developed as quickly as possible. It will be a program estimated at around 3.5 to 4 million euros.

I would like to thank for the cooperation of my two colleagues who are present, the Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Mr. Christos Triandopoulos and the fellow Chairman of the Production and Trade Committee of the Parliament, Mr. Christos Boukoros for their cooperation and their contribution throughout this case”.
