ROME (AP) — A 4.8 magnitude earthquake shook parts of Tuscany early Monday, according to geologists and firefighters. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The earthquake was recorded at 5:10 a.m. following several smaller tremors, with the epicenter near Marradi, northeast of Florence, according to the Italian Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology.
The area is considered to be at high seismic risk, said the agency, which mentioned one in 1919 that hit Mugello and was the strongest recorded in Italy in the 20th century.
The Italian fire service said it had received some calls from concerned residents, but so far no damage or injuries had been reported.
