A 4.7 magnitude earthquake is recorded in New York

NEW YORK, New York.— This Friday, an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.7 shook the New York City metropolitan area, and was felt in other parts of the East Coast of the United States, the geological survey reported.

The quake was centered near the town of Lebanon, New Jersey, the agency said.

That’s 72 kilometers west of New York City and 80 kilometers north of Philadelphia.

The New York Fire Department said no damage has been reported.

The mayor of the New York City, Eric Adamshas been notified of the earthquake, said spokesman Fabien Levy, adding, “While we have no reports of significant effects at this time, we continue to evaluate the impact.”

In midtown Manhattan, many drivers honked their horns as they felt the tremor.

Some Brooklyn residents felt a roar and felt their building sway.

In a home in Manhattan’s East Village, a resident who is originally from California — an area more susceptible to tremors — was trying to calm his neighbors.
