A 4.7 magnitude earthquake hit Los Angeles

Washington.-An earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale shook the city of Los Angeles, United States, and so far, no damage or injuries have been reported.

According to local media, it affected a wide swath of southern California. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, Monday’s quake was felt throughout the Los Angeles basin and as far away as San Diego and Ventura.

Residents had been alerted via warning systems that sent out alerts warning of seismic activity.

According to the first official reports, it occurred at 12:20 pm (local time) and had a depth of 7.5 miles, that is, just over 12 kilometers.

Local media reported that the Los Angeles Fire Department went into “earthquake mode” after the shaking subsided.

That means fire personnel from all 106 neighborhood stations will survey their districts for damage to local infrastructure or “areas of local concern.”

The protocol also includes a review of “critical infrastructure and areas of local concern” by land, air and water.

Margaret Stewart of the force told reporters there had been “no reports of major damage anywhere.”

Although no further seismic activity is forecast, firefighters have asked the population to prepare for any aftershocks.

“If you are inside when the shaking begins: Drop, Cover, Hold On! Protect your head and neck by taking shelter under sturdy furniture or near a sturdy interior wall, away from windows and doors until the shaking stops,” the guidelines say.

They also recommend: “After inspecting your home and/or workplace for earthquake damage and ensuring there are no injuries, check on your pets and at-risk neighbors, especially older people who live alone.”

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass reported on her X account: A preliminary 4.7 magnitude earthquake struck the Los Angeles region this afternoon. Our @LAFD is now in earthquake mode and is activated to conduct their routine survey of the city to assess any damage.

On August 7, the same region had been shaken by a 5.2 earthquake, with several aftershocks, but without significant damage.Clarín.
