A US prison inmate man died following kissing a woman he was visiting.
According to the Washington Post (WP) on the 18th, Rachel Dollard, 33, was charged with murder when she went to visit Joshua Brown, 30, who was incarcerated in Tennessee State Penitentiary.
Dollard visited the prison in February to meet Brown, 30, who is serving an 11-year sentence on drug charges.
Dollard kissed Brown at the time, and Brown died a few days later in the hospital. It turns out that Dollard kissed Brown that day and handed him a small balloon-shaped pill that was in his mouth.
This pill contained regarding 14 grams of methamphetamine. Brown had planned to swallow the pill and release it later, but the pill burst inside his body.
Brown, whose sentence was due to expire in 2029, eventually died of a drug overdose. Dollard was arrested by local police on the 14th and charged with second-degree murder and drug smuggling.
Second degree murder is not considered a premeditated crime under U.S. criminal law, but it is treated as either manslaughter or manslaughter by negligence and usually carries a sentence of 15 to 60 years in prison.
“This incident demonstrates the dangers and consequences of bringing contraband into prisons,” said the Tennessee State Department of Corrections Commissioner. We will pursue prosecution,” he said.
He also emphasized that vehicle search, detection dogs and drug discovery tools are being used to prevent the entry of contraband into prisons.
Meanwhile, Dollard is said to have denied the allegations. “I don’t know because I wasn’t there, but her daughter is denying that this happened. She was very worried regarding Brown,” his mother told NBC.
“This is a tragic event for Brown’s family and for all of us,” he said. “We are praying that God will help us.”
