A German teenager, kidnapped and held captive for several days by a man wanted by the German authorities, was found on May 27 during a check in Barcarès (Pyrénées-Orientales), we learned from the gendarmerie on Wednesday.
The victim, aged 13, was kidnapped on May 23 by a 22-year-old man, also a German, indicates the Pyrénées-Orientales gendarmerie.
The two individuals were noticed by the gendarmes during a routine check at a garage in Barcarès, a seaside resort in the department.
In the young man’s vehicle, the soldiers found a dummy handgun, handcuffs and equipment used in the kidnapping of the young girl, and arrested him. The place of the kidnapping was not indicated by the investigators who mentioned that the two Germans were “in transit” in the south of France.
The young German, who was the subject of a European arrest warrant issued by the authorities of his country, was then presented to the general prosecutor’s office in Montpellier, before being extradited to Germany, we learn from the same source.
The teenager was placed at the departmental institute for childhood and adolescence (IDEA) in Perpignan while waiting for her family to come and pick her up.
